To understand the operation of a magnetic switch and model its performance
a model of the magnetic pulse compressor system is presented based on the Pspice software.Circuit analysis of compressor and charging system accounting for nonlinear processes in a magnetic switch is described.Simulation results illustrate that in order to realize the desired pulse
4 μs and 400 ns magnetization periods are required for PT1 and MS1
respectively.Two compression stages suffice for the forming of-55 kV
100 ns pulses across a 400 Ω load;the fall time is 50 ns.The experimental results obtained with a resistive load are in good agreement with the circuit simulation.
