This paper investigates modeling of lightning overvoltage on 500 kV substation by making use of the advanced software ATPDraw3.5
in which substation and incoming line are banded together as an object.The ATP modeling process of lightning surge system is analyzed considering such factors as near lightning strike area
far lightning strike area
impulse volt-second characteristic of lightning tower insulator string
induced overvoltage and power frequency overvoltage of the line
and tower impulse grounding impedance of incoming line
etc.The result may facilitate the prevention of lightning overvohage on high-voh substation.
