The discharge characteristics of multineedle-to-plane dielectric barrier discharge in ambient air are studied by the measurement of its voltage-current waveform and voltage-charge Lissajous figure. The differences between this discharge and plane-to-plane dielectric barrier discharge are compared

and the effects of these two kinds discharges on PTFE surface modification are studied by the contact angle measurement. Results show that: under the same conditions

the multineedle-to-plane dielectric barrier discharge can generate more active species than the plane-to-plane dielectric barrier discharge

and shorter time is needed to get the same effect as the plane-to-plane dielectric barrier discharge in PTFE surface modification.
