This paper sets up simulation models with distributed parameters for power cable to calculate grounding capacitive current in single-phase power cable and grounding imbalance current in three-phase power cable
and analyses the effectiveness and sensitivity of the grounding current to the insulation defect. The simulation results show that the cable insulation defect is positively correlative with both the grounding capacitive current and the grounding imbalance current
moreover
the latter is more sensitive. The sensitivity is relative to the load and the defect location. The simulation models and software based on ATP and Matlab
as a nice learning tool
are also useful to analyze the measurement results on site and guide to determine the location of cable fault.
