Abstract
When the negative ions are injected into a highly non-uniform field gap by means of the auxiliary needle electrodes
to which the negative dc voltage is applied
the positive lightning impluse breakdown voltages are measured in SF6 and its mixtures. Based on the experimental results the influence of the stability of the negative ions on the impulse breakdown mechanism is analysed.
