The pulsed electro-acoustic method is a popular technology of measuring the space charge distribution
which accumulates in thick solid dielectric materials. One of the most important conditions for developing the measurement technique is that a high-voltage pulse(amplitude>400 V
pulse width<20 ns) must be easy to be generated. In this paper
a new high voltage pulse generator is designed. The mercury relay is used as switch and the energy storage capacitor releases its energy to the load when the switch closed.According to the test results
the pulse with amplitude about 600 V and width less than 10ns can be obtained easily.
