Taking a 1 000 kV ultra high voltage substation(UHV substation) project as background
a study on the mechanicalcharacteristicsof fittings under wind load has been carried out. Using ABAQUS software to establish the finite element model of down lead transmission lines and connecting fittings
the nonlinear static analysisis performed to evaluate the mechanical characteristics of the structure. The hardware form
hanging position and connection of down lead transmission lines are discussed also to evaluate the effects on mechanical performance of connection fittings. The results show that
high voltage bushing with "一"-shaped terminal fittings is obviously superior to that with "L"-shaped ones. However
the"一"-shaped hardware itself need to be strengthen. The hanging position of down lead transmission lines has great influence on the mechanical properties of connect fittings
and it is suggested that one should try to reduce the hanging position offset during installation and construction. In view of suffering strength point
the "II"-shaped down lead transmission linesare significantly better than that of herringbone-shaped ones.
