Statistical Flashover Characteristic Analysis for Artificially Iced Disk-shaped and Suspension DC Insulators
Artificial icing test has long been employed as an important approach to evaluate icing insulation. However
there is no any uniform test standard for studying the characteristics of external insulation of porcelain and glass insulators
and iced DC transmission lines. In this paper
the flashover characteristic of iced insulator strings is investigated based on experiments carried out in a multifunctional artificial climate chamber with diameter of 7.8 m and height of 11.6 m and in a low temperature and low pressure test chamber with diameter of 2.0 m and length of 3.8 m.Adopting the statistical methods
the number of the least effective test samples for satisfying the equably boosting voltage method is obtained. Results show that the DC flashover voltage of ice-coated insulators conforms to normal distribution
and the number of the least effective test samples demanded by the equably boosting method is 20.
