Influence of HVDC System Monopole Operartion on 500 kV AC Transformer
More and more HVDC lines and DC-AC converter substations will be put into operation due to the advancement of HVDC technology and the larger scale of the West-to-East power transmission project. When a HVDC system operates in monopole mode
some problems such as significant noise rise and overheating occur in 500 kV AC transformers
or even some transformers would be damaged. There are one DC-AC converter substation and two 500 kV transformer substations in Huizhou power grid. The transformers in the two substations would suffer different influences if the HVDC system monopole operates. In this paper
the principle of influence of HVDC system monopole operation on 500 kV AC transforme is analyzed in theory
and some suggestions about restraining the DC current flowing through transformer’s neutral point are offered considering the present condiction of Huizhou power grid.
