Simulation and Application of the Gas-blowing Arc Extinction Gap for Lightning Protection
The new gas-blowing arc extinction gap technology can prevent insulator chain from burn by the arc due to power frequency follow current when overhead transmission line is struck by lightning or flashover takes place on the insulator chain
and the gap can cut off the follow current fast after it is broken down.In this paper
the Mayr arc model is employed to simulate the gas-blowing arc extinction
and the results show that the high-speed gas flow facilitates arc extinction significantly. In addition
the gas-blowing arc extinction gaps are installed on the transmission lines with high rate of trip induced by lightning
and the obtained operation data indicate that the rate of trip due to lightning is clearly reduced.
