Analysis of Existing Problems in the Valve Cooling System for HVDC Transmission Project
valve cooling system is used to cool the thyristor valve
a core component in DC transmission system
its operation state influences the operation of DC transmission system directly.Valve cooling system can cause lock of monopolar or bipolar valve. The author introduces the basic principle of valve cooling system
and analyzes the existing problems during its operation
e.g.the cooling control and protection(CCP)cannot reflect system redundancy
the priority of softening unit recovery is lower than that of system water replenishing
the monitoring signal of spray pump in outside CCP is absent
the design of cooling tower shower is irrational
no monitor is equipped for the quality of softening unit recovery
and the water quality in equalizing reservoir is poor.Corresponding methods are provided
including modifying CCP control software
making priority of the softening unit recovery higher than that of the system water replenishing
setting gauges in the softening unit recovery loop to detect electric conductivity and flow rate
extending the shower terminal outside the cooling tower and adding flushing valve at the terminal
installing water flowmeter to monitor output of the spray pump
and recoding the control program of outlet valve. This study is expected to be helpful in enhancing stability and reliability of the valve cooling system in existing HVDC projects.
