Reducing grounding resistance of a substation is of utmost importance to guarantee the safety of personnel and equipments.Slanting earthing pole is effective on this purpose. In this paper
a simulation model is built with the software CDEGS to analyze the influences of position
angel
length
and strand number of slanting earthing pole on the resistance reduction of the square grounding network with different areas. Thus
an optimum layout of slanting earthing poles is determined. And a comparison between the vertical earthing pole and the slanting earthing pole is drawn. The results reveal that: the slanting earthing pole reduces grounding resistance of substation effectively
especially for the grounding network with an area smaller than 100 m×100 m;slanting earthing pole performs better in resistance reduction than vertical one in uniform soil
however their performance depends on the actual soil structure in layered soil. Therefore
all influencing factors should be considered to select an appropriate method for reducing the earthing resistance of a square grounding network.
