Experimental Research on Composite Insulator Fault Detection
With the amount of composite insulators increasing in power network
the transmission accidents caused by the fault of composite insulator are increased. In order to ensure the reliability of the transmission network
it is important to detect the potential faults in composite insulators with correlation testing method. In the article
the faults of tracking
metal particle attached and internal carbonized channel were simulated on a running composite insulator. The ultraviolet imaging method
infrared imaging method and electric field method were used to detect the simulated faults and their detection results were analyzed. The results show that ultraviolet imaging method is favorable to detect the surface discharge failure.Infrared imaging method can test the faults causing partial temperature rising but not sensitive for short-term fault.Electric field method can only find out the serious short circuit fault.Furthermore
it is more advantageous for testing insulator faults under humid climate and the utilities should strengthen insulator inspection under raining
