Observing distance and gain affect the detection result of an ultraviolet(UV) imaging device.According to the working principle of UV imaging device
the facular region of discharge in a UV image was extracted segmentally with the digital image processing algorithm in this study
and a parameter
facular area
was defined to quantify discharge intensity. The UV image of corona discharge at rod-plate gap was analyzed
and the relation curves of facular area with UV imaging device’s observing distance and gain were obtained.Approximate inverse relation between the facular area and the square of observing distance as well as approximate exponential relation between the facular area and the gain were observed. This study may provide a new quantitative parameter for corona discharge quantification.
