Analysis of Insulation Characteristics of SF6/N2 Gas Mixtures with Monte Carlo Method
For the overall density-reduced electric field strength(E/N) form 150 to 500 Td(1 Td=10-17V·cm2)
the pulsed Townsend discharge of SF6/N2gas mixture was simulated by Monte Carlo method with the null-collision technique. Within the range of SF6volume fraction k(0

00%)
the density-normalized effective ionization coefficient(α-η)/N
drift velocity Ve
and the limiting field strength(E/N)lim for SF6/N2gas mixture are calculated
which shows a good agreement with the experimental data. The insulation strength of SF6/N2gas mixture can reach the same value of pure SF6by raising the pressure of SF6/N2mixture. This study may offer a reference for substituting SF6/N2for SF6in high voltage apparat
