Wind Load Calculation of Post Insulator in Disconnecting Switch
This paper has applied k-ε model of turbulence to calculate the wind loads to which single insulator is subjected at different wind speeds with the aid of CFD software FLUENT
and the results have been compared with those calculated from empirical formula. The reason for the errors has been analyzed
and the revised formula has been presented to give more accurate results. Then the same model and software are used to calculate the wind loads to which the whole assembly of four insulators is subjected at different wind speeds
and the results have been compared with those calculated from two approximate methods
and also the main reason for the errors has been analyzed. Moreover the relationship of the wind load applied on the whole assembly of four insulators with the center-to-center distance between two insulator posts has been studied. The results have shown that in case of wind speeds higher than 20 m/s
the empirical formula overestimates the wind loads applied on single insulator
and the wind load applied on the whole assembly decreases as the center-to-center distance increases.
