The existing researches on the faults of gas insulated switchgear(GIS)focus mostly on fault diagnosis and identification
however
systematic researches are insufficient. In this paper
a GIS fault tree is established from two aspects of mechanical faults and insulation faults based on a lot of GIS fault cases
and the GIS fault tree is analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The qualitative analysis indicates that improper manufacture and installation are the main reasons of GIS faults
and most faults are controllable. The quantitative analysis focuses on the importance of insulation defects. It is concluded that to enhance the reliability of GIS
the manufacture and installation quality must be improved
and scientific management is necessary to be applied to GIS operation.
