Characteristics of Partial Discharge on Typical Defects of XLPE Cable Under AC Voltage and Damped AC Voltage
Partial discharge(PD)diagnosis techniques have been widely used for monitoring insulation condition of power cables. To investigate the characteristics of partial discharge in power cable
four typical defect models were established based on the simulation results for generating internal air discharge
needle-plate discharge
surface discharge and suspended discharge. The four kinds of PDs were measured under AC voltage and damped AC voltage to comparatively analyze their characteristic parameters
such as the PD inception voltage
the PD extinction voltage
the pulse current waveform
the frequency spectrogram
and the PD pattern. The results indicate that obvious differences exist in the statistical characteristics of the PDs on the four defect models. This study may provide a reference for further research on PD pattern recognition and insulation aging characteristics of power cable.
