Study of Pre-strike Overvoltage Caused by 12 kV Vacuum Circuit Breaker Switching Shunt Reactors
Switching shunt reactors by 12 k V vacuum circuit breaker(VCB) may produce pre-strike phenomenon and cause severe overvoltage. In order to investigate the pre-strike overvoltage caused by VCB switching-in shunt reactors and to improve the existing simulation model
a series of field experiments of a type of 12 k V VCB are conducted on a running power system and the transient processes and phenomenon are analyzed. The results indicate that the pres-trike probability of this type of VCB is as high as 50%
and the phase to ground overvoltage caused by pre-strike can exceed 4.0 p.u.. A pre-strike model of 12 k V VCB switching-in shunt reactors is set up via ATP-EMTP based on the results of the field tests
including the switching-in operation characteristics of different period
the dielectric dynamic strength recovery curve and high-frequency current quenching characteristics. A three-phase simulation of the VCB switching-in shunt reactors in ATP-EMTP to simulate the field tests is established
and the cable parasitic parameters is considered in the simulation. The simulation results agree well with the experimental results.
