Research Progress in Treatment of Diesel Engine Exhaust by Non-thermal Plasmas
Diesel engines are more and more widely used in automobiles
MPVs
trucks and heavy-duty vehicles as a result of their high efficiency
high output power
excellent durability and low fuel cost. Compared with gasoline engines
diesel engines have a property of lower carbon emissions. However
diesel engine exhaust contains large amounts of nitrogen oxides(NO
x
)
particulate matter(PM)and so on. With the stricter regulations on environmental protection
how to totally control diesel exhaust pollutants has become a research hotspot nowadays. In this paper
the composition and characteristics of diesel exhaust pollutants are analysed. Classical diesel exhaust aftertreatment systems and their disadvantages are re
viewed. The new method to assist diesel exhaust control by nonthermal plasmas and its research progress are discussed in detail. At last
a proposed method to control diesel exhaust emissions is given.
