Analysis on the Insulating Sheath Test for Transmission Line
To reduce the tripping operation of transmission lines due to bird droppings
insulating sheath is adopted to compensate shortcomings of other anti-bird measures. Tests of insulating sheath showed that bonding method and installation distance impose significant effects on insulation property of the sheath. In this study
the effects of the bonding method and installation distance on insulation property of insulating sheath were analyzed experimentally to achieve optimal insulation performance. The results show that it is necessary to brush adhesive on the groove and both convex sides of the sheath in bonding process
and the minimum distance from the bare conductor to the possible place of bird droppings should be greater than 60 cm after installation of insulating sheath. Moreover
the finite element analysis software ANSYS was employed to simulate the insulating sheaths with different bonding methods and lengths and to investigate their installation performances. The simulation results are in good agreement with the experimental ones. On-site application of the insulating sheath demonstrates that it can effectively prevent bird droppings-induced flashover.
