Representing Running State of Polluted Insulator by Amplitude of Leakage Current and Waveform Distortion Rate
To develop an early warning method for contamination flashover
a large number of artificial contamination AC tests were conducted on the XP-70 insulator in an artificial fog chamber. Considering the three stages of contamination flashover process
the typical waveform features of leakage current on the insulator surface as well as the variations of the leakage current amplitude and waveform distortion rate in these three stages were revealed in both time domain and frequency domain. The results show the amplitude of leakage current and the rate of waveform distortion can effectively describe the characteristics of leakage current waveform
and their variations are independent on such parameters as the equivalent salt deposit density and contamination distribution on the insulator
and air pressure. This study may provide a reference for developing a leakage current-based insulator monitoring system.
