Prospective Review of the Detection Technology of Decomposed Gases Formed by Air Discharge in High Voltage Apparatus
Fault diagnosis based on the decomposition gas analysis method(DGAM)is through the examination of the composition of the decomposed gases produced in a fault. It is an important method for the detection of equipment fault and irreplaceable in some applications. However this method is at the moment only applied to insulation oil and SF

gas. There has been no application to air insulation so far. In the present work
the feasibility of discharge diagnosis in air by monitoring the decomposed gases is studied considering the relevant theory on the formation of discharge products. In addition
a review has been carried out on the present research and application of the decomposition gas analysis method. F
uture work is also proposed that includes the decomposition and formation of chemical species and the influencing factors
relationship between gas properties and discharge behavior
and finally the method to recognize partial discharges.
