Comparative Study of the Interruption Capability of N2,CO2 and SF6 Nozzle Arcs
The dynamic behavior and energy exchange mechanisms in the quenching process of three transient nozzle arcs burning in N

have been investigated. The turbulent arc model is first calibrated against available experimental results and its applicability and accuracy verified by comparison with the latter. Arcs burning in the three gases are then modelled and energy balance analysis carried out to identify the dominant energy exchange mechanism in each of the three gas arcs. Focusing on the inflection points in the radial temperature distribution curves
the different interruption capabilities of the nozzle arcs are traced back to the differences in gas material properties.
A link between the interruption capability of a gas and its material properties is finally established.
