Experiment on Breakdown Characteristics of SF6/CF4 Gas Mixture Under Two Typical Electrode Arrangements
A study has been devoted to the breakdown characteristics of SF
6
/CF
4
mixture within a 5 mm electrode gap for two typical electrode arrangements. The breakdown voltage of SF
6
/CF
4
mixture is measured with the partial pressure ratio of SF
6
varying from 0% to 100% and the total pressure from 0.1 MPa to 0.6
MPa. The effects of gas pressure
inhomogeneity of the electric field and SF
6
concentration etc on the insulation performance of SF
6
/CF
4
mixture are studied. Results show that when the pressure is 0.6 MPa and the partial pressure ratio of SF
6
is 20%
the breakdown voltage of the mixture with plane-plane electrode is 138.89 k V
which is 64.8% of that of pure SF
6
at the same pressure
and for needle-plane electrode(where the needle is negative polarity) the breakdown voltage is 58.4 k V
74.8% of the pure SF
6
value. The breakdown voltage of SF
6
/CF
4
gas increases nonlinearly with the partial pressure ratio of SF
6
at constant total pressure. The breakdown voltage becomes less sensitive to the partial pressure when the non-uniformity of the field increases. The synergistic effect of SF
6
/CF
4
gas mixture is obviously weakened with the increase of SF
6
partial pressure ratio; with the increase in total pressure of the mixture at constant partial pressure ratio of SF
