Finite Element Modeling of Bending of Single-core Optical Fiber Composite Submarine Power Cable
Serious bending of submarine power cable will lead to severe accidents such as leakage
grounding
short circuit
and cable breakage. It is difficult to obtain bending property and structure data of submarine cable by using entity experiments owing to high cost and difficult operation. In this paper
a finite element modeling method is proposed to implement bending experiment of the single-core optical fiber composite submarine power cable. In this experiment
the SOLID164 and SHELL163 elements are selected
and the ALE arithmetic combined with sweeping and mapping method is employed to generate grids. According to the mechanical properties and structural characteristics
the single-ended constraint and rotational inertia load are applied to the submarine cable to simulate actual bending process of the submarine cable. Simulation shows that the hourglass energy is less than 1%% of the internal energy
and the data of strain and stress accord with elastoplastic material’s characteristics and engineering experience. This study may provide a reference for application of optical fiber sensing technology and research of submarine cable bending.
