Molecular Dynamics Simulation of Epoxy Resin/Carbon Nanotube Composites in Basin Insulators
The comprehensive performance of a basin insulator is usually difficult to improve at the same time.Based on the molecular dynamics simulation
the composite materials are designed by nano-doping
and the thermaland mechanical properties of the composites are improved. Firstly
epoxy resin and three kinds of carbon nanotubes(uncapped
half capped
fully capped)epoxy composite models are established by using molecular modeling soft-ware. In order to get a reasonable spatial structure
the density of the four models is optimized by LAMMPS based onReax FF. Then
the mechanical properties of the four models are calculated by the static constant strain method
andthe thermal conductivity of the four models is obtained by employing the nonequilibrium molecular dynamics meth-od. The results show that the mechanical properties of the composite material doped fully capped carbon nanotubehave increased by 26.5%
and the thermal conductivity increased by 5%. The uncapped carbon nanotube enhancedthe mechanical properties and thermal conductivity of the epoxy resin composites about 8.7% and 17.8%
respective-ly. And half capped carbon nanotube only enhanced about 1.5% and 0.2%
respectively. Considering the higher re-quirement of thermal performance of basin insulators
it is more practical to choose the uncapped carbon nanotube asdoping particles.
