Sizing and Cost Analysis of Hybrid Energy Storage System for Compensating Wind Power Forecast Errors
Integrating an appropriate energy storage system with a large scale wind power plant can improve the acceptance capacity of grid for wind power. In this study
a hybrid energy storage system(HESS) composed of compressed air energy storage(CAES) and battery is proposed to balance actual wind power and forecasted wind farm output power. The low-pass filtering method is used to decompose the wind farm output power deviation into the output power of two kinds of energy storage systems for compensating the power forecast errors via corresponding control mechanisms. With consideration of battery loss characteristics
a lifetime assessment model of the battery is proposed.By analyzing the cost composition of HESS
a life cycle cost calculation model is established.Taking a typical wind farm for example
different sorts of energy storage schemes are compared to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed model and method. The results show that compared with the single-battery energy storage
the proposed hybrid energy storage system can make use of the superiority of CAES in low cost and long lifetime to reduce the allocation proportion of battery capacity
so as to improve the economy of the energy storage system.
