Feasibility Study on Total Sugar as New Characteristic Parameter for the Thermal Aging of Paper Insulation Inside Oil-immersed Transformers
With the degree polymerization of insulating paper as the criterion for diagnosis of oil-paper insulation aging degree
accelerated thermal aging experiments were conducted on the paper insulation in different temperature.Total sugar in oil samples were measured by anthrone colorimetry. The correlation of total sugar and furfural with degree polymerization was investigated. The results show that with the decrease of degree polymerization
total sugar in the corresponding oil samples with the degree polymerization ranging from 1 000 to 600 indicate a tendency to increase and total sugar is much more significant than the changes of furfural
so total sugar can be used as a new characteristic parameter to characterize the oil-paper insulation aging degree during the mid-prophase of aging. However
total sugar in the corresponding oil samples with the degree polymerization ranging from 600 to 200 vary irregularly
thus total sugar cannot be used to characterize the oil-paper insulation aging degree during the mid-anaphase of aging. The determination of total sugar in oil provides a new idea for diagnosing the aging degree of oil-paper insulation.
