In order to study the seismic performance of a suspended converter valve with hinged interlayer subjected to strong seismic actions
a high-end valve hall and valve tower of a ±800 kV UHV converter station was taken as an objective to establish a finite element model for dynamic analysis. The seismic responses of the hinged interlayer and rigid interlayer converter valves are compared.A simplified calculation model for vertical seismic responses of valve tower is proposed
and a large number of seismic ground motions of different site types are input for calculation and statistical analysis. The results show that the hinge between the layers can reduce the axial tensile force of the suspension insulator of the valve tower compared with that of the rigid connection between the layers
but it will increase the horizontal acceleration response at the top of the valve tower. The axial tension of the suspension insulator is significantly increased under the action of an earthquake
and under certain working conditions
pressure will be generated. The "swinging" phenomenon of the valve tower causes the insulator to be pressed asynchronously.Suspended insulators are slender members
and it is necessary to carry out instability check under pressure for seismic design. The simplified model can be used to quickly calculate the vertical seismic responses of the valve tower.
