Development of On-site Real-time Monitoring System for Corrosion of Power Transmission Tower Foots
it has been found that some of the transmission poles and tower feet of the Southern Power Grid area are severely corroded.Investigations revealed that many of the corroded tower feet were covered by farmland soil
and the soil provided a good medium for tower foot corrosion. In order to study the corrosion mechanism of corroded poles and feet
it is very important to obtain real-time measured corrosion data. This paper firstly carried out the research on the corrosion monitoring method of the tower foot.Using the principle of corrosion electrochemistry
a corrosion monitoring sensor based on "strip groove" structure was proposed
and a set of data monitoring system was developed.Next
the performance of the corrosion monitoring system is tested to obtain the characteristics of the tower foot corrosion measurement system under dripping conditions
salt spray environment
and dry and wet cycling conditions. Finally
install the system to the site where tower foot corrosion occurs
and measure the local corrosion current. The results show that the corrosion current on the site of the tower foot fluctuates up and down within a day
which is close to the temperature change law. After the precipitation
the corrosion current will increase sharply
and then gradually decrease with time. Therefore
the corrosion current is affected by both temperature and soil moisture. The comprehensive results show that the corrosion site monitoring system has a good effect in monitoring the corrosion changes in the area.
