Study on the Flow Field Characteristics of Parallel Composite Insulator During Icing Coating Process
Many icing disasters are easy to happen frequently in the winter in south of China. Ice coating could cause decrease of electrical performance of insulator and the fault caused is a serious threat to the safety of transmission line. It is therefore necessary to explore the ice-coating characteristic of the insulator. At present
a loft of in-depth study on the ice-coating characteristic of single string insulator is performed by the scholars both at home and abroad
but that of parallel multiple string for UHV transmission line is seldom reported. Therefore
the flow field characteristic of parallel composite insulator string during the ice-coating period is studied by Fluent flow field software. It is shown by the result that the air can form the whirlpool at the leeside of insulators during the ice-coating period and
in case of low wind condition
the stronger the air is
the more obvious the whirlpool is. Air flow distribution around the insulation rod is uneven due to big wind velocity and the air flow velocity increases. The increase range of water droplet speed in the air is affected by the airflow. The stronger of the airflow is
the bigger the increase range of speed is. The water droplet trajectory at the gap of parallel insulator can influence each other. Therefore the volume fraction of the water droplet is affected in the inner side of the parallel insulator. The ice coating flow field characteristic explored in this paper can provide a definite theoretical reference for studying the ice-coating flashover of insulator.
